EL CAMÖS 00 IS THE FINAL RESULT OF LONG-TERM EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH PROCESS, AIMED AT OBTAINING A REFERENCE PRODUCT FOR INNOVATION, QUALITY AND FUNCTIONALITY: VISIONARY LAYOUTS, UNIQUE SUSPENSION SYSTEMS AND EXCLUSIVE DESIGN MAKE EACH ELEMENT A HARMONIOUS COMBINATION OF FUNCTIONALITY AND AESTHETICS.

DESIGN

THE DESIGN OF EL CAMÖS 00 SPRINGS FROM A STRONG ATTENTION TO PURITY, MINIMALISM, SIMPLICITY – “LESS IS MORE” – WHICH FINDS EXPRESSION IN THE UNUSUAL LINES OF THIS PRODUCT CONCEIVED AS A TECHNOLOGICAL WORK OF ART.

INTUITION BECOMES IDEA, IDEA THOUGHT AND THOUGHT AMBITIOUS PROJECT, WHICH MOVES THE LIMITS OF THE POSSIBLE MAKING THEM REALITY.

THE Y-SHAPED FRAME, BORN IN THE 90’s, HAS BEEN REINTERPRETED AND IS MADE OF CARBON FIBRE: A DREAM THAT HAD BEEN CULTIVATED FOR 30 YEARS.

El Camös is a minimalistic structure that exploits technologically advanced composite materials and a progressive core suspension system.

El Camös is designed to be adaptable the most varied kinds of use.

The Y-shaped frame, born in the 90’s, reaches its design apex by making the most of the structural properties of the carbon composite.

This shape combines advantages of rigidity and low weight by better exploiting large structural surfaces, thus overcoming the traditional tube and triangle architecture.

El Camös design is inspired by the highly technical use of the bike which requires a balance between multiple requirements. This design places the product in the highest levels of competitiveness in the Racing XC Marathon as in the use “Fun”, Trail, All Mountain and in all sectors in which the future range of El Camös frames could be used. Lightness

The way the structure is designed allows for a reduction of the number of pieces and thus a cut in material use: this results into a significant weight reduction.

Performance

The arrangement of geometries of this frame aims for high performance and rideability on every kind of terrain, high responsiveness while pedaling and maximum safety and stability when going downhill.

This outcome is the result of multiple characteristics of angles and geometries: short chainstay and central fulcrum point, front part with long reach and open steering column (67,5 degrees), verticalized saddle column (75 degrees), lowered bottom bracket, 120mm of progressive travel.

Kinematic chain technology

We invested in technology and resources to develop a new fulcrum point and therefore a new kinematic chain. This set reduces the number of necessary components thanks to a full pull linkage system which works with traction and eliminates one of the four contact points compared to traditional linkages. Also, the chainstay is reduced to a single element: an extra-long fork which enhances the functional and structural simplicity of the whole.

Mass centralization

All the mechanical components and the shock absorber are very close to the center of gravity of the frame and positioned as low as possible, in a very small area between the bottom bracket and the forward fulcrum.

Aestethics

The bike is an object imbued with functional technicalities, which must meet biomechanical and structural characteristics. Aesthetics must take these into account. Only a designer, who has all these necessary ingredients clear in their mind, can produce a coherent aesthetic “recipe” with the different elements of the project and that gives personality to the product.

The choice for El Camös was to follow the shapes of the forces acting on the bike connecting the points with straight segments.

This results in a simple, balanced, and minimalistic aesthetic with the mechanical parts hidden in the bottom bracket. The shape is free from curvatures that often, when used inappropriately, “weigh down” the whole. El Camös lives in three dimensions. It was designed by a sculptor who played with octagonal sections and the perspective of the elements which make up the whole. The history of design tells us that it is harder to design a beautiful chair than a beautiful house. The fewer elements you have and the simpler the object you design, the greater the complexity of the design process.

KINEMATIC CHAIN

FULL PULL AND CENTRAL FULCRUM POINT

MINIMAL THINKING

TRUE TO THE CONCEPT OF MINIMALISM, THE KINEMATIC CHAIN COMBINES AS FEW PIECES AND COMPONENTS AS POSSIBLE, AS LIGHT AS POSSIBLE AND IS PLACED IN THE CENTRE OF MASS OF THE BIKE. THE DISTINCTIVE LEVERAGE IS INSPIRED BY A MOTORCYCLE “PRO LINK”. IT ELIMINATES THE CLASSICAL “TRIANGLE”. INDEED, THE FOURTH SHOCK ABSORBER ATTACHMENT POINT IS REMOVED SO TO MAKE IT COINCIDE WITH THE JOINT BETWEEN THE TWO RODS.

THIS IS A COMPLICATED OPERATION AS IT ELIMINATES A “CORRECTIVE” POSSIBILITY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF LEVERAGE. HOWEVER, IT PROVIDES INNUMERABLE ADVANTAGES ONCE THE RESULT OF THE CALCULATIONS IS REACHED. A BIG ADVANTAGE LIES IN THE SIMPLICITY OF THE COMPONENTS WHICH ARE REDUCED TO SMALL CONNECTING RODS THAT WORK IN TRACTION. ANOTHER BENEFIT IS THE PARTICULAR PROGRESSIVE CURVE THAT IS GENERATED. THE UNIQUE HANDLING OF CHANGES IN LOAD, PERFECTLY SUITED FOR MOUNTAIN BIKING, FROM THE FIRST PART OF THE STROKE TO THE END OF THE STROKE, MAKES THE BIKE ABLE TO ABSORB A WIDE RANGE OF SHOCKS.

Central fulcrum point

THE CENTRAL FULCRUM POINT ON THE EL CAMÖS FRAME IS ONE OF THE VITAL AND SIGNIFICANT CHARACTHERISTICS OF THE DESIGN. WHAT DOES IT MEAN, IN PRACTICAL TERMS, TO HAVE A FULCRUM POINT SO CLOSE TO THE SPINDLE? AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS IT BRINGS?

FIRSTLY, THE FORWARD FULCRUM POINT MAKES SPACE FOR AN EXTRA LONG FORK WITH AN EXCELLENT SHOCK ABSORBING CAPACITY, SIMULTANEOUSLY, IT ENABLES AN EXTRA SHORT CHAINSTAY (MAX FORK LENGTH 575MM, CHAINSTAY LENGTH 428MM). THIS GIVES MAXIMUM TRACTION AND HANDLING WHEN GOING UPHILL AND GREAT ABSORPTION OF FORCES AND SMOOTHNESS ON EVERY KIND OF TERRAIN.

SECONDLY, THE CENTRAL FULCRUM POINT THAT IS FURTHER THAN THE CENTRAL SPINDLE IMPROVES BALANCE AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY. THE FORCES GENERATED BY THE PEDALING ARE REDIRECTED HORIZONTALLY WHEN THE CHAIN IS PULLED.

THIRD, IT ENABLES A UNIQUE DRIVING BALANCE, A MORE NEUTRAL AND INSTINCTIVE DRIVE, SINCE THE FULCRUM POINT IS VERY CLOSE TO THE OVERALL CENTER OF GRAVITY “BIKE+RIDER”. ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT IS THAT ALL THE KINEMATIC CHAIN MECHANICS FIT IN BETWEEN THE BOTTOM BRACKET AND THE CENTRAL FULCRUM ITSELF, MAKING THE SET VERY COMPACT, PROTECTED, LIGHT AND RELIABLE.

TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGICAL AND PRODUCTION RESEARCH
EL CAMÖS IS THE RESULT OF SEVERAL YEARS OF AN EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH PROCESS, AIMING AT DESIGNING A PRODUCT WHICH STANDS OUT FOR INNOVATION, QUALITY AND FUNCTIONALITY. EVERY SINGLE DETAIL IS STUDIED AND MADE ACCORDING TO STANDARDS THAT GUARANTEE A TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED FINAL PRODUCT.

The compound products of El Camos are made by high pressure autoclave molding using high quality tracking processes.

The frames have a carbon look finish, that is, no superficial varnishing treatment is applied, to reveal the fiber texture, the heart of the frame of El Camös.

Carbon fiber features high mechanical resistance and, thanks to its lamination, it has a high shock absorption capacity and maximum rigidity when pedaling. The material is hand-laminated in monocoque, made in an autoclave polymerization process.

GEOMETRIES

EL CAMÖS 00 IS A VERSITILE BIKE WHICH CAN BE COMPETITIVE AND COMPATIBLE IN DIFFERENT KINDS OF RACES SUCH AS XC, MX AND DOWN CONTRY. THE Y-SHAPED CARBON FIBRE FRAME (PATENT PENDING) AND THE ADVANCED FORK FULCRUM ALLOW A GEOMETRY WITH ELONGATED REACH AND EXTREMELY SHORT CHAINSTAY (418MM). THE VERTICALIZED COLUMN ANGLE AND THE OPEN STEERING COLUMN MAKE THE DOWNHILL DRIVING INTUITIVE AND SIMPLE FOR THE RIDER. THE COMPACT CHAINSTAY (THE SHORTEST ON THE MARKET) AND THE VERTICAL COLUMN MAKE THE BIKE AS REACTIVE UPHILL AS A FRONT SUSPENSION AND, AT THE SAME TIME, FAST AND AGILE ON THE SLOWEST SINGLE TRACKS.

The frame model features a 120mm travel and can work with 120mm forks for Racing use or with 135mm for Trail use. At low speeds, the compression curve of the suspension, which is progressive, perfectly follows the gait and gaps of the terrain. It also ensures a fluid damping of impacts at high speed but also on extreme jumps landings.

El Camos 00 is extremely effective and agile uphill, and precise and responsive when going downhill.

The Y-shaped frame combines simply designed lines with exceptional resistance, guaranteed by the directionality of carbon fibers.

The rear suspension scheme is structured with a single point of physical fulcrum, located towards the front of the bicycle, halfway along the wheelbase of the bike.

The pivot, which is aligned with the chain, determines a surprisingly neutral behavior while pedaling: an absolute novelty, patent pending, which has incredibly positive effects on rigidity and weight. Available sizes: M and L. Sizes on request: S and XL.
